Job summary

Hawkeye Electric in Marion, IA seeks an experienced Controller to lead accounting operations, including month-end close, job costing, WIP, and payroll compliance. You will partner with project managers and leadership to deliver accurate reporting, strengthen controls, and continuously improve processes.

This hands-on role requires construction accounting expertise, ownership mindset, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. Construction ERP experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
• 5+ years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
• Construction accounting experience strongly preferred.
• Experience with construction ERP or accounting systems; Foundation Software preferred.
• Experience with union payroll and construction job costing strongly preferred.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong computer skills.
• Ability to analyze financial information and resolve issues independently.
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and oversee timely monthly financial statements and month-end close.
• Maintain the general ledger and ensure trial balance integrity.
• Manage construction accounting: job costing, WIP reporting, over/under billings.
• Oversee AIA/progress billing, retainage, change orders, and related processes.
• Oversee payroll processing, including union payroll and related reporting.
• Develop cash flow forecasts and assist cash management.
• Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis.
• Track intercompany transactions and improve internal controls.
• Provide management with meaningful financial reporting and analysis.
