Job summary

American Electric Power in Indiana is seeking a Construction Lead to provide leadership and field oversight across transmission lines, substations, and distribution networks with strong emphasis on safety and risk management. This role serves as the SME and primary liaison between Construction Management and cross-functional partners to support planning, coordination, and timely field execution.

The position is posted at multiple grade levels, offering advancement to principal levels.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Safety or related field with 6+ years' experience overseeing/transmission/line construction.
• ABET accredited associate degree in electrical, construction management, safety, civil eng tech or related field with 8+ years' experience overseeing/transmission/line construction.
• High school diploma or GED with 10+ years of direct experience as an AEP/contractor line or station field employee or Construction Rep.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and field oversight to ensure safe, efficient construction execution.
• Lead constructability scoping and coordinate with project planning and execution teams.
• Interpret transmission plan drawings, structure loading trees, and associated diagrams.
• Coordinate work in energized or near-energized environments with outage sequencing and system reliability in mind.
• Mentor junior personnel and lead cross-functional scoping efforts for early project lifecycle.
