Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a Senior Configuration Engineer to shape the MK1 Cargo Lander architecture and own the configuration baseline across subsystems. You will drive cross-disciplinary trades, ensuring design integrity and long-term viability while mentoring engineers and aligning with manufacturing constraints.

You will lead architecture studies, maintain an improvement roadmap, and manage ECRs to ensure coherent, traceable vehicle design.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, or related) and 10+ years of experience in spacecraft or launch vehicle mechanical design, configuration, and layout engineering; or MS with 8+ years
• Deep working knowledge in at least one of: vehicle structural design, mechanical systems design, or cryogenic upper stage design
• Experience leading architecture-level or vehicle-level trade studies
• Configuration control experience on aerospace/launch vehicle products
• Strong track record of cross-functional influence and consensus-building
• 3-D CAD and visualization tool experience (Cre o, Windchill)
• Understanding manufacturing, assembly and integration realities shaping design decisions

Responsibilities

• Lead cross-disciplinary trade studies defining long-term MK1 Cargo Lander architecture
• Develop and maintain a long-term improvement roadmap for MK1 architecture
• Evaluate new technologies and manufacturing methods for integration
• Own configuration management for the current MK1 vehicle baseline
• Define and maintain interface configurations between subsystems
• Resolve cross-subsystem configuration conflicts and dependencies
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship across engineering teams
• Champion configuration management best practices and standards
