Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Senior Software Engineer on the Compute Platform to own and enhance the compute orchestration backbone used by hundreds of engineers. You will build tooling, automation, and new capabilities to deploy and operate critical services at scale, leveraging Kubernetes and CNCF technologies with a focus on security, reliability, and observability.

You will work across Security, Reliability, and Observability teams while enabling AI-assisted workflows and maintaining high standards

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years building and operating Kubernetes or similar compute orchestration systems.
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages (Go, Python, Java) with experience building production-grade infrastructure services.
• Hands-on experience with AWS and/or GCP infrastructure services in a production, scale-out environment.
• Experience designing, implementing, and operating distributed infrastructure systems and diagnosing failures to root cause.
• Hands-on experience with CNCF tools (Helm, Prometheus, ArgoCD, Envoy) to solve real infra problems.
• Ability to apply AI tooling to infrastructure workflows with human oversight for quality and cost improvements.

Responsibilities

• Own the design, build, and operation of Kubernetes cluster management tooling and automation.
• Build developer-facing tooling and workflows to simplify Kubernetes usage and integrate AI-driven processes.
• Deliver new compute capabilities for service owners, including jobs, cron scheduling, deployment strategies, and right-sizing.
• Improve platform observability, automate toil, and reduce on-call burden.
• Collaborate with Security, Reliability, and Observability teams to meet standards for security, uptime, and performance.
