Job summary

Syms Strategic Group, LLC is seeking an experienced systems professional to support VA cloud environments remotely. The role emphasizes AWS/Azure, Linux/Windows, automation, and security compliance.

Ideal candidates will have 8+ years in systems engineering, strong scripting, IaC, and CI/CD experience, with a focus on reliable, secure production operations. This is a 100% remote U.S. based position with W-2 employment.

Qualifications

• Experience with AWS and/or Azure cloud environments and related services.
• Proven ability to manage and maintain large-scale production systems.
• Strong Linux/Unix and Windows proficiency for admin tasks.
• Automation scripting with Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
• Experience with configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef, SaltStack).
• Familiarity with IaC (CloudFormation) and monitoring (CloudWatch, Dynatrace).
• Version control with Git; CI/CD using GitHub Actions and CodeBuild/CodeDeploy.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-level operational support for cloud systems.
• Develop solutions for routine technical problems of limited scope.
• Analyze data to determine appropriate course of action.
• Detect, document, and resolve outages; recover systems and implement workarounds.
• Document problems in logging and discrepancy reporting tools.
• Collaborate with customers and cross-functional teams on daily tasks.
• Respond to user calls regarding hardware and software issues; escalate as needed.
• Communicate status of issues to users and senior management.
• Perform maintenance/installation of computing infrastructure.
• Continuously improve IT systems and procedures; maintain asset inventory.
• Ensure compliance with VA standards and security policies.
