Job summary

Pearson is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to own end-to-end delivery of scalable backend systems. You will design, build, deploy, and operate complex services in a cloud-native AWS environment, collaborating across product, architecture, and security teams.

The role emphasizes reliability, observability, and modernization while delivering new capabilities. You will lead architectural decisions, drive technical discovery, and mentor engineers across onshore and offshore locations, ensuring

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in CS/SE or related field.
7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with backend systems.
Experience as technical lead or senior engineer for complex initiatives.
Strong backend concepts: distributed systems, concurrency, scalability, fault tolerance, observability.

Responsibilities

Lead architecture, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and production support of complex software systems.
Build scalable, reliable backend services and event-driven applications on AWS.
Own major initiatives from discovery through production rollout and ongoing support.
Balance new features with modernization, technical debt reduction, and reliability improvements.
Mentor engineers and promote engineering best practices across teams.
