Pearson is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to own and drive end-to-end technical initiatives across scalable backend systems. You will lead architecture, design, implementation, and production operations for cloud-native services, with a strong emphasis on AWS, distributed systems, and reliability.

You will mentor teams and collaborate with product, security, and platform teams globally to deliver high-quality, maintainable solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT, or related field.
• 7+ years of professional software engineering with backend design, development, and operations.
• Demonstrated experience as a technical lead or senior engineer on complex, cross-functional initiatives.
• Deep knowledge of backend concepts: distributed systems, concurrency, scalability, fault tolerance, resiliency, and performance.
• Strong programming experience in modern languages (e.g., Java, Kotlin, Scala, C#, Go, Rust, TypeScript).
• Experience designing/building microservices, RESTful APIs, asynchronous workflows, event-driven architectures, streaming systems, and integration services.
• Strong AWS and cloud-native engineering experience; familiarity with serverless, containers, and IaC.

Responsabilités

• Lead architecture, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and production support of complex software systems.
• Build scalable backend services and distributed, event-driven applications on AWS.
• Lead major engineering initiatives from discovery through rollout and ongoing support.
• Balance new feature delivery with modernization, debt reduction, and reliability improvements.
• Collaborate with product, architecture, security, and operations to translate requirements into technical approaches.
• Develop and communicate architectural proposals, decisions, and trade-offs.
• Lead architecture reviews, design discussions, and implementation planning for complex initiatives.
• Mentor engineers in design, reviews, troubleshooting, and best practices.
• Establish standards for code quality, testing, observability, security, and operational readiness.
• Produce clear technical documentation and runbooks.
