Job summary

Pearson is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer and technical leader to own end-to-end delivery of backend systems in a cloud-native, AWS environment. You will drive architecture, design, and production readiness across distributed teams and modernize mature platforms while delivering new capabilities.

You will mentor engineers, shape technical strategy, and maintain high standards for reliability, observability, and security in a 24/7 production environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS, IT, or related field; master’s a plus.
• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Experience leading cross-functional, complex backend initiatives.
• Strong knowledge of backend engineering concepts, distributed systems, and performance.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and production support of complex software systems.
• Build scalable, reliable backend services, distributed systems, event-driven apps, and streaming solutions.
• Own major engineering initiatives from discovery through delivery and support.
• Balance new features with modernization and reliability improvements.
