Job summary

Samsara is hiring a Senior Engineer in the Infrastructure org to evolve cloud foundations behind our products. You will reduce production risk, scale infrastructure safely, and drive standardized automation across a multi-account AWS environment.

You’ll bring deep expertise in at least one domain (compute, networking, storage, or control planes) and mentor teams while collaborating with product engineers to improve platforms and operations at scale.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience designing and building software, infrastructure, or distributed systems, including operating critical systems in production.
• Deep expertise in at least one area: compute and workload orchestration, networking, storage/stateful systems, or cloud infrastructure control planes.
• Strong software-engineering fundamentals in Go, Python, Java, or similar.
• Hands-on experience designing and operating infrastructure on a major public cloud (AWS preferred).
• Experience using infrastructure as code (Terraform) to safely manage production infrastructure.
• Understanding of capacity management, failure domains, observability, rollout safety, and production recovery.
• Ability to lead complex technical initiatives across teams in ambiguous problem spaces.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction for major infrastructure systems and lead ambiguous initiatives spanning multiple teams.
• Design, build, and operate reliable cloud platforms, with depth in compute, networking, storage, stateful systems, or control planes.
• Improve scalability, capacity management, isolation, recovery, and cost efficiency of production infrastructure.
• Build standardized IaC workflows and reusable automation for self-service provisioning, testing, rollout, reconciliation, rollback, and drift prevention.
• Identify shared failure modes and build safeguards to prevent broad customer impact.
• Contribute to multi-account, multi-region AWS architectures, including GovCloud/regulatory environments.
• Participate in incident response and use lessons to drive durable architectural improvements.
• Mentor engineers and propagate best practices across the org.
• Communicate architecture, trade-offs, risks, and migration plans to stakeholders.
• Champion Samsara’s cultural principles as we scale globally.
