Job summary

CVS Health Enterprise Technology is seeking a Lead Cloud Engineer to shape the Observability Platform, guiding engineers to design, build, and scale logs, metrics, and traces for thousands of workloads across multiple clouds.

You will drive OpenTelemetry adoption, construct high‑throughput pipelines, mentor staff, participate in on‑call rotations, define SLOs and incident response, and ensure secure, cost-efficient platform operations.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of Software Engineering experience.
• 5+ years with observability practices (SLIs/SLOs/SLAs, alerting).
• 5+ years building production-grade backends in Go/Java.
• 5+ years implementing OpenTelemetry and instrumentation patterns.
• 5+ years with cloud-native platforms (Docker, Kubernetes).
• 5+ years with public cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• 3+ years designing distributed data pipelines.
• 3+ years with Helmcharts/Kustomize and IR tools.
• 3+ years with Grafana OSS or similar backends.
• 3+ years with Terraform/CloudFormation and SQL databases.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate core observability platform services.
• Lead enterprise-wide adoption of OpenTelemetry andCollector/agent strategy.
• Architect high-throughput, fault-tolerant telemetry pipelines.
• Develop self-service observability capabilities for onboarding and troubleshooting.
• Define SLOs, health checks, and alerting for the platform.
• Collaborate with SRE/Platform/Cloud teams to set reliability standards.
• Participate in on-call rotations and incident reviews.
• Automate workflows via CI/CD and platform tooling.
• Ensure secure telemetry pipelines with mTLS and secrets management.
• Produce high-quality documentation and platform standards.
• Influence roadmap with engineering leadership and principal engineers.
