Job summary

CVS Health Enterprise Technology is seeking a Lead Cloud Engineer to shape the Observability Platform across multiple clouds and datacenters. You will architect and scale pipelines handling billions of logs, metrics, and traces, collaborating with SRE and application teams to drive reliability and performance.

You will mentor engineers, define instrumentation patterns, and champion secure, compliant telemetry practices while delivering self-service capabilities and high-quality documentation.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of software engineering experience.
• 5+ years observability with SLIs/SLOs/SLAs, alerting, and incident management.
• 5+ years building production-grade backends in Go and/or Java.
• 5+ years implementing OpenTelemetry and instrumentation patterns.
• 5+ years with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and container tech (Docker, Kubernetes).
• 3+ years designing and scaling distributed, high-volume data pipelines.
• 3+ years with Helm/Kustomize or similar tools.
• 3+ years with Grafana or comparable observability backends.
• 3+ years with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or CloudFormation).
• 3+ years with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL).

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate core observability platform services using Go, Python, Java.
• Lead enterprise-wide adoption of OpenTelemetry, libraries, conventions, and strategies.
• Architect and scale high-throughput telemetry pipelines (logs, metrics, traces).
• Develop self-service observability capabilities for onboarding and troubleshooting.
• Implement end-to-end monitoring with SLOs, health checks, and alerts.
• Collaborate with SRE, Platform, and Cloud teams to set reliability standards.
• Participate in on-call rotations and lead incident reviews and RCA.
• Automate workflows and enhance CI/CD and platform automation.
• Ensure secure telemetry pipelines with mTLS and secret management.
• Produce technical documentation and standards for the team.
• Engage with teams to guide roadmap and gather requirements.
• Provide technical leadership through reviews and mentoring.
