Job summary

CVS Health is seeking a Lead Cloud Engineer for the Observability Platform within Enterprise Technology. Design and scale telemetry pipelines (logs, metrics, traces) across public clouds and data centers.

Mentor teams while driving OpenTelemetry adoption and secure, reliable platform operations. You will work closely with SRE, Platform, and Cloud teams to define reliability standards, build self-service tooling, and ensure end-to-end monitoring with actionable SLIs/SLOs.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of software engineering experience.
• 5+ years observability practices incl. SLOs/SLAs, alerting, incident management.
• 5+ years building production-grade backend services in Go and/or Java.
• 5+ years implementing and operating OpenTelemetry.
• 5+ years with cloud-native platforms (Docker, Kubernetes, Argo CD).
• 3+ years designing and scaling distributed data pipelines.
• 3+ years with IaC tools (Terraform or CloudFormation).
• 3+ years with relational databases like PostgreSQL/MySQL.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate core observability platform services using Go, Python, Java.
• Lead enterprise-wide adoption of OpenTelemetry and related patterns.
• Architect and scale high-throughput telemetry pipelines (logs, metrics, traces).
• Develop self-service observability capabilities for onboarding and troubleshooting.
• Implement end-to-end monitoring with SLOs, health checks, and alerting.
• Collaborate with SRE, Platform, and Cloud teams to set reliability standards.
• Participate in on-call rotations and lead incident investigations and reviews.
• Automate workflows via CI/CD and platform tooling enhancements.
• Ensure secure telemetry pipelines with mTLS and secrets management.
• Create technical docs, standards, and best practices.
• Engage with internal teams to influence roadmap and deliver improvements.
• Provide technical leadership through design reviews and mentorship.
