Job summary

Markel Group seeks a seasoned claims professional in Chicago to resolve moderate to high complexity claims, from coverage enquiry through liability assessment and quantum analysis. You will communicate developments to internal and external stakeholders and help mitigate indemnity and expense exposure.

The role includes training teammates, directing experts and outside counsel, and presenting cases to senior leaders. Hybrid work options apply, with location-based scheduling.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
• Must have or be eligible to receive claims adjuster license.
• Participation in industry designations (INS, IEA, AIC, ARM, SCLA, CPCU) or related training.

Responsibilities

• Analyzes coverage and communicates coverage positions.
• Conducts, coordinates, and directs investigation into loss facts and extent of damages.
• Confirms coverage by reviewing policies and documents submitted in support of claims.
• Maintains claims guidelines and best practice procedures.
• Coordinates loss information for stakeholders and presents information in meetings.
• Delivers technical training to colleagues and external contacts.
• Directs and monitors assignments to experts and outside counsel; manages vendors and litigation.
• Evaluates information to determine insured's exposure; negotiates settlements.
• Prepares coverage position letters and reports; participates in roundtables.
• Provides timely service and meets SLAs; sets reserves within authority.
