Job summary

Markel seeks a Senior Claims Examiner to resolve moderate to high complexity claims with exposure considerations. The role handles coverage evaluation, liability assessment, and quantum analysis, with increasing decision-making authority and minimal oversight.

You will train and mentor others, coordinate with underwriters and insureds, and represent Markel at mediations, trials, and conferences while controlling expenses.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
• JD, advanced degree, or focused technical degree a plus.
• Must have or be eligible to receive claims adjuster license.

Responsibilities

• Confirms coverage of claims by reviewing policies and documents.
• Analyzes coverage and communicates coverage positions.
• Prepares coverage position letters and refers losses to SIU when needed.
• Conducts investigation into loss facts and damages; directs experts and outside counsel.
• Evaluates information to determine insured's exposure and reserves.
• Negotiates and settles claims within authority; presents at roundtables to leadership.
