Job summary

Blue Origin Engines is seeking a Senior Civil Design Engineer to lead the civil-structural design on a high-performing team. You will own complex facility and infrastructure designs, coordinating with geotechnical, mechanical, electrical, and process engineers to deliver robust solutions.

The role requires deep design experience, advanced judgment, and a hands-on mindset for both office and field work. Relocation and travel up to 20% are possible as the team supports program operations.

Qualifications

• B.S. in civil or structural engineering from ABET-accredited program.
• PE license in Civil or Structural engineering — issued in any U.S. state.
• Minimum 7 years of experience designing and delivering structural or civil infrastructure through the full project life cycle.
• Ability to own complex designs from concept through construction with no oversight.
• Deep knowledge of industry codes (AISC-360, ACI 318, ASCE-7, IBC, IEBC).
• Experience managing external design firms, specialists, or general contractors.
• Willingness to travel up to 20% to support field activities.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end design of the most complex buildings, foundations, and site infrastructure supporting program operations.
• Serve as internal design authority for civil-structural work and set technical direction.
• Create detailed drawings and calculations to industry standards (AISC-360, ACI 318, ASCE-7, IBC, IEBC).
• Perform advanced structural analysis using software and hand-calculation methods; document load combinations and code compliance.
• Coordinate with geotechnical, mechanical, electrical, and process engineers to integrate requirements.
• Manage relationships with external design firms, consultants, and general contractors; review deliverables.
• Interface with local building officials to support permit approvals and address comments.
• Develop specifications, RFPs, and scope; lead contractor selection and pre-con meetings.
• Provide construction support: RFIs, submittal reviews, site visits, punch list, on-site observation.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance and design reviews.
• Provide schedule, hours, and budget input to leadership; inform risk and trade decisions.
