Job summary

Arcadis U.S. Inc. is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer SME to support the Gateway Hudson Tunnel Project, a high-profile, two-track rail tunnel under the Hudson River, with construction oversight and field support.

The role requires PE licensure in NJ or NY, 10+ years in civil engineering with utilities, and strong coordination across contractors, Amtrak, and public agencies. Hybrid office environment in the NYC metro area is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering (Master's preferred).
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in New Jersey or New York.
• 10+ years of progressive civil engineering experience with utility infrastructure focus.
• Demonstrated ability to resolve field issues and contractor-driven design changes.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, and related tools.
• Familiarity with Amtrak, AREMA, NJDOT, NYDOT requirements.
• Experience coordinating with contractors, utility owners, and public agencies.
• Willingness to work in a hybrid project office in the NYC metro tri-state area.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the technical SME for utility infrastructure during construction.
• Provide technical support to field teams and resolve utility and civil construction issues.
• Review designs against field conditions, constructability, and constraints.
• Manage RFIs, submittals, field changes, and design deviations.
• Coordinate with contractors, Amtrak, utility owners, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Support utility coordination during construction including tie-ins and relocations.
• Contribute to drainage, grading, and corridor infrastructure as needed.
• Review shop drawings and participate in field inspections and meetings.
• Identify and mitigate risks impacting cost, schedule, and constructability.
• Provide technical guidance to junior staff and support project delivery.
