Job summary

Town of Vernon seeks a Part Time Senior Center Bus Driver. Operate the Senior Center Bus to transport elderly residents and handle safety, cleanliness, and vehicle inspections at each shift.

Must hold a CT Class 2 CDL with passenger/air brake endorsement and ME certificate; good driving record and safe driving are essential. The role may involve driving other town vehicles as needed.

Qualifications

• Possession and maintenance of State of Connecticut Class 2 Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger/air brake endorsement and medical examiner’s certificate.
• Must have and maintain a good driving record and demonstrate safe driving.

Responsibilities

• Operates and drives the Senior Center Bus to transport elderly residents.
• Drives a variety of Town vehicles for Senior Center activities and transports senior citizens and handicapped persons to appointments.
• Responsible for cleanliness of the vehicle, vehicle inspections, fuel fill-ups, and overall safety and security of Town vehicle.
• Reports vehicle defects and maintenance needs; prepares reports and maintains records including destination, time, mileage, passengers, and hours worked.
• Regular and punctual attendance.

++Hourly Rate++: $21.58

++General Statement of Duties:++ Operates and drives the Senior Center Bus to transport elderly residents.

++Supervision Received++: Receives general supervision from the Senior Center Director.

++Essential Job Functions:++ Drives a variety of Town vehicles for Senior Center activities; transports senior citizens and handicapped persons to and from appointments; responsible for cleanliness of the vehicle; responsible for vehicle inspection at the beginning/end of each shift, fuel fill-ups, and overall safety and security of Town vehicle. Reports vehicle defects, malfunctions immediately to the immediate supervisor and Public Works Director; advises need for vehicle maintenance; prepares reports and maintains accurate records including but not limited to destination, time, mileage, passengers, and hours worked. Regular and punctual attendance.

++Other Job Functions:++ May on occasion drive for other Town departments; performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

++Knowledge, Skills & Ability:++ Skill in the operation of a variety of vehicles; knowledge of traffic laws, ordinances and rules involved in vehicle operation; knowledge of the geography of the Town of Vernon; ability to operate a cell phone; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to clearly communicate and considerable ability to understand, interact and deal with people, such as senior citizens and people that are handicapped; ability to maintain current and accurate records.
