Bus Driver (Senior Center)

Definition: Operator of multi passenger vehicles driving senior center citizens to and from various Council on Aging program; other duties as needed.

Supervision: Works under the general supervision of the Director of the Hudson Senior Center for the Council on Aging.

Essential Functions & Examples of Work:
  • Performs duties requiring good judgment in ensuring the safety of transporting elderly people to various destinations, and being alert to emergency situations.
  • Errors could be dangerous to public safety and could have legal repercussions.
  • Makes frequent contact with the general public.
  • Has very limited access to confidential information.
  • Duties require some physical effort in assisting elderly people in and out of bus and in maintaining the bus.
  • Transports senior citizens to and from Senior Center, hospitals, doctor’s appointments, blood pressure clinics, stores and other special recreational trips.
  • Makes daily checks on buses to insure cleanliness and mechanical efficiency in accordance with established Council on Aging driver daily check sheet.
  • Assists senior citizens with various errands such as carrying groceries, etc.
  • Reports injuries or possible failing health or abuse to Council on Aging Director.
Education And Experience
  • High school graduation or equivalent; experience in driving and working with the elderly; or any equivalent combination/certification and experience. Possession of a valid Massachusetts Driver license.
  • One and a half to three year experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Skill in handling controls for starting, stopping, backing up and driving the bus; knowledge of safety rules and regulations for driving a bus; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; skill in communication; overall mechanical understanding of bus.
