Job summary

Altron Inc. seeks a Senior Software Engineer to lead Navy Programs, guiding architecture and hands-on development of mission-critical software for submarines and platforms.

You will drive design decisions across application, middleware, and deployment layers, including Kubernetes migrations, with a focus on robust, scalable systems. The role requires 8+ years of experience, DoD Secret clearance, and strong C++11+ and Linux skills.

Qualifications

• Must have U.S. citizenship and an active DoD Secret clearance.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field with 8+ years of experience.
• Demonstrated experience as a technical lead on complex software products.
• Advanced proficiency in modern C++ (C++11+), multithreading, async design, performance tuning.
• Strong Linux experience (RHEL or derivative).
• Experience designing and troubleshooting distributed, event-driven, or service-oriented systems.
• Practical experience with gRPC, Protocol Buffers, and networking fundamentals.
• Experience defining test strategies and building automated CI/CD pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture, design, development, and integration of C++ software for Navy submarine combat systems.
• Set technical direction across app, middleware, interface, and deployment layers, including Kubernetes migrations.
• Design and integrate distributed applications using APIs, gRPC, Protobuf, and messaging middleware.
• Lead integration of COTS, open-source, and custom software components.
• Diagnose and resolve complex software, networking, concurrency, and system integration issues.
• Define test strategies and ensure code meets them; oversee reviews and secure coding practices.
• Mentor engineers and communicate status, risk, and recommendations to leadership.
