Job summary

Altron Inc in Middletown, RI is seeking a Software Engineer to join our Navy Programs team. You will help develop, integrate, test, and maintain mission-critical software for U.S. Navy submarines, aircraft carriers, and shore systems.

The role emphasizes C++ on Linux with modern C++11+, unit testing, and agile collaboration with product leads and testers. Experience packaging apps for Kubernetes and building containers will be valued, along with DoD clearance.

Qualifications

• U.S. citizenship and active DoD Secret clearance at time of hire.
• Bachelor's degree in CS/CE plus 2–4 years of software development experience.
• Proficiency in C++11+ features (smart pointers, move semantics, STL, multithreading).
• Experience building C++ applications with Make on Linux.
• Experience using Linux command line (RHEL).
• Git-based version control and code review experience.
• Experience debugging with GDB/Valgrind or sanitizers.
• Familiarity with agile software development methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain C++ applications for U.S. Navy submarine combat systems.
• Modernize existing C++ apps and migrate legacy software to a Kubernetes-based platform.
• Package C++ applications as containers for Kubernetes-based runtimes.
• Write unit tests, maintain test coverage, and perform component/integration testing.
• Debug and troubleshoot defects with test engineers to reproduce and resolve issues.
• Collaborate with product leads to clarify requirements and deliver features in an agile sprint.
• Produce clean, well-documented code following CM practices.
