Job summary

Altron Inc. is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for our Navy Programs team in Manassas, VA. You will provide hands-on technical leadership for design, development, integration, and fielding of mission-critical software supporting U.S.

Navy submarines, carriers, and shore systems. The ideal candidate has eight+ years of experience, deep C++ on Linux, and a track record in distributed systems. You will mentor engineers, drive architecture decisions, and contribute through lab testing and

Qualifications

8+ years of professional software development experience.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field.
Experience as a technical lead on a complex software product or integration effort.
Advanced proficiency in modern C++ (C++11+) including multithreading and performance tuning.
Strong Linux experience, preferably RHEL or a derivative.
Experience with gRPC, Protocol Buffers, and networking fundamentals.
Ability to translate system requirements into maintainable software designs.

Responsibilities

Lead architecture, design, development, and integration of C++ software for Navy systems.
Set technical direction across application, middleware, interface, and deployment layers; migrate legacy apps to Kubernetes.
Design and integrate distributed applications using APIs, gRPC, Protocol Buffers, and messaging middleware such as DDS or AMQP.
Lead integration of COTS, open-source, and custom-developed software components.
Diagnose and resolve complex software, networking, and system integration problems in lab and Navy environments.
Define unit, integration, and system-level test strategies and ensure code meets them.
Lead code and design reviews, mentor engineers, and promote secure coding and CM practices.
