Job summary

Jacobs is seeking a Building Mechanical Engineer to join the Infrastructure Design team in the Northwest. You will design HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and central utility systems for water, wastewater, and industrial facilities, lead design efforts, and coordinate with architects, vendors, and clients.

You will perform energy analyses, size equipment, and develop drawings and specifications while mentoring junior engineers and supporting construction activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering is required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within one year.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive building mechanical engineering and project delivery experience.
  • Motivation, strong data analysis, problem solving, organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

  • Design complete HVAC systems including package type and central plants per building codes and standards (ASHRAE, NFPA, SMACNA, IBC, IECC).
  • Design HVAC control systems with integration to SCADA and building management systems.
  • Design plumbing systems including utility and potable distribution, drainage, and miscellaneous systems.
  • Design fire protection systems using a performance-based approach.
  • Perform HVAC loads calculations, duct/pipe sizing, lifecycle costs and energy analyses (RESCHECK/COMCHECK).
  • Prepare calculations for plumbing systems: water and drainage flows, water heater and pump sizing.
  • Prepare detailed design drawings and specifications, basis of design reports and technical memoranda with equipment selection and vendor coordination.
  • Conduct field evaluations and develop as-built drawings.
  • Manage and coordinate work with architects, engineers, technicians; mentor junior engineers.
  • Lead meetings with clients, vendors and stakeholders to establish project needs and discuss design issues.
  • Manage quality, schedule, and interface with clients/contractors; oversee project budgets and effort estimates.
  • Support field staff during construction, respond to submittals and RFIs.
