Job summary

Tuolumne County Department is seeking an advanced Building Inspector who will perform comprehensive plan reviews and inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial sites to enforce building codes and ensure conformance with plans, permits, and standards. The role includes providing technical direction to staff and coordinating with the Chief Building Official.

The position requires reading complex construction documents, applying code knowledge, and guiding inspections across multiple

Qualifications

• Equivalent to completion of twelfth (12th) grade and four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience in the building and/or construction trades, including at least one (1) year in a lead capacity, or two (2) years of experience as a Building Inspector II in Tuolumne County.
• Completion of an accredited technical school or college-level program of building inspection, plan review or closely related field is desirable.
• Possession of California driver’s license and satisfactory driving record; ICC certificates or ICC Combination Inspection certificate.

Responsibilities

• Review plans and conduct inspections of residential, commercial and industrial buildings to enforce codes.
• Perform technical reviews and checks for compliance with California building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical codes.
• Provide training and direction to staff; coordinate inspections with Chief Building Official.
• Schedule inspections with contractors, developers and property owners at various construction stages.
• Prepare inspection reports and maintain accurate logs and records of inspections.
