Job summary

City of Compton is seeking a Building Official with strong supervisory experience to lead inspection and plan-review teams. You will oversee permitting, code enforcement, and inter-department coordination to ensure compliance with building standards.

The role requires a related degree and ICC certifications, with a focus on safety, budgets, and staff development. The City offers comprehensive benefits and a 4/10 schedule where applicable.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering or related field and 5 years of plan review/inspection experience, with 2 years supervisory experience.
• Must possess valid CA Driver’s License and ICC Building Inspector certifications (B1, B2, B3) or equivalent.
• Knowledge of building codes, city codes, construction administration and budget management.

Responsibilities

• Supervise daily building inspection activities and plan review, and administer enforcement of building and safety codes.
• Review and approve permits and Certificates of Occupancy; investigate code enforcement complaints.
• Coordinate department activities with other agencies and provide technical assistance as needed.
• Mentor staff, participate in budget development, and prepare reports for the Chief Building Official.
