Job summary

Tuolumne County is seeking a qualified leader to oversee the County Surveyor’s Division within Public Works. The role involves planning, organizing, and supervising surveying operations, staff, and related records to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulations.

The incumbent will work under the Community Resources Agency Director, provide high-level staff assistance, and coordinate with external agencies and engineers.

Qualifications

• Education: Combination of training and experience; Bachelor's degree desirable in Land Surveying, Geomatics or closely related field.
• Experience: Four years of increasingly responsible experience as a Licensed Land Surveyor, with supervisory experience.
• Licenses: Valid Land Surveyor license or equivalent engineering license; valid CA driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, review, and evaluate the County Surveyor’s operations and programs.
• Develop and implement policies, procedures, and work standards for surveying activities.
• Manage department budget, staffing, and procurement; monitor expenditures and adjust as needed.
• Supervise staff; provide guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
• Coordinate with other departments and outside agencies; liaise with engineers and land surveyors.
