Job summary

City of New York is seeking a Building Code Specialist to interpret code and zoning issues and lead a plan examination mentorship and QC program. You will mentor staff, develop audit protocols, and ensure technical accuracy across complex projects.

You will collaborate with borough offices, advise stakeholders, and represent the Department of Buildings in inter-agency forums while driving process improvements.

Qualifications

• The candidate must have extensive experience in construction inspection and plan review processes.
• Experience leading QA/QC programs and technical audits in a regulatory environment.
• Strong ability to interpret code and zoning regulations and apply them to projects.

Responsibilities

• Spearhead an advanced team-based plan exam mentorship and training program.
• Lead plan examination quality control program and audit protocols to ensure accuracy and consistency.
• Provide QC support on objections, zoning reviews, and interpretation for major projects.
• Consult with developers, owners, and design professionals to resolve technical and schedule issues.
• Represent the Department of Buildings in inter-agency panels and executive meetings.
• Perform comprehensive plan examinations for NB and major alteration applications across borough offices.
