Job summary

The New York City Department of Buildings is seeking an Inspector (Plumbing) to conduct and supervise plumbing inspections in compliance with NYC Construction Codes and Zoning Resolution. Remote work up to 2 days per week may be available under the Remote Work Pilot Program.

Under direction, you assist the Chief, plan and coordinate inspections, monitor outcomes, and ensure proper documentation and reporting.

Qualifications

• Two years of full-time, satisfactory plumbing experience or inspection experience.
• One year of experience plus one year of formal training in plumbing.
• Possession of a professional engineer or registered architect license.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Chief in conducting inspection work and coordinating the work of a team or unit.
• Prepare work schedules and monitor outcomes of inspections.
• Assign, supervise, and evaluate the work of subordinates; prioritize assignments and coordinate workflow.
• Ensure inspections are conducted in accordance with NYC Construction Codes, Zoning Resolution and Department rules.
• Explain and enforce laws and rules relevant to the field; testify as needed.
• Maintain records and prepare reports; may train subordinates.

Education

Sixty credits towards a degree in civil engineering, engineering technology, mechanical engineering, or a closely related field

Completion of an apprentice program in plumbing or plumbing inspection

Professional engineer license or registered architect license
