Hadrian is building autonomous factories to reindustrialize America. The Build Engineer, Large Scale Machining, will own the end-to-end flow for large machined parts—from design review through qualification to production ramp.

You’ll define machining processes, datum schemes, and flow, collaborating across Design, Supply Chain, Tooling, Quality, and Operations to ensure rate, cost, and quality. This on-site role requires deep expertise in large-format machining, GD&T, and CNC programming, with

Qualifications

• 5+ years in build/manufacturing/production engineering with ownership of large machined parts from requirements to production.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience.
• Experience translating customer specs, drawings and quality clauses into build requirements.
• Strong GD&T and tolerance-stack skills across multi-setup parts with a proven datum strategy.
• Knowledge of large-format machining (HBMs, gantry/bridge mills, large 5‑axis centers) and large-part metrology.
• Experience reverse engineering parts from incomplete data or legacy drawings.
• Experience structuring BOMs, work orders, and work instructions in PLM/ERP/MES systems.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD.
• Comfort on the factory floor and decision-making under schedule pressure.
• On-site work at Hadrian’s site factory.

Responsibilities

• Interpret and define product requirements from customer specifications and translate them into machining requirements, critical characteristics, and inspection needs.
• Reverse engineer parts to establish design intent, critical features, and a buildable sequence.
• Review models and drawings for machinability at scale and drive changes before design freeze.
• Own the end-to-end machining route (rough, stress relief, semi-finish, finish, inspection) and handoffs to weld/cladding/assembly.
• Set the setup count and establish datums carried forward for match-machining with mating assemblies.
• Define high-level process for each operation and hand to Capability Engineering complete and on time.
• Define lift points, handling, and part flow to optimize rigging and logistics.
• Own design intent for large-part fixtures and tooling, collaborating with Tooling Engineering.
• Provide setup sheets, datum schemes, and critical-feature intent to CNC Programming.
• Build and maintain BOMs, work orders, and Opus instructions in Hadrian's PLM/ERP/MES; manage engineering change and configuration.
• Recommend make/buy decisions and manage both paths when pursued in parallel.
• Plan and execute subscale and full-scale qualification builds, including alternate-material development where needed.
• Own disposition and root-cause for non-conformances and drive corrective action.
