Job summary

HDR is seeking a Senior Major Bridge Technical Director to lead HDR’s Bridges and Structures portfolio within the Transportation Business Group. You will provide technical leadership for major bridge designs, guide multi-disciplinary teams, and drive project development and delivery across long-span projects.

You will mentor engineers, manage client relations, support marketing efforts, and ensure QA/QC adherence while expanding HDR’s bridge capabilities across North America, Canada and abroad.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering with PE license (or ability to obtain).
• 10+ years of bridge design experience with major projects.
• Proven leadership in multi-disciplinary teams and client relationships.
• Experience with long-span bridges and alternative delivery projects (DB/Progressive DB/P3).
• Strong communication, mentoring, and project management skills.
• Familiarity with bridge software such as LARSA, LUSAS, SAP2000, MDX.

Responsibilities

• Lead planning, directing, and monitoring large, complex bridge projects.
• Provide technical oversight and cross-team coordination.
• Deliver bridge design leadership and production oversight.
• Perform advanced structural analysis for long-span structures.
• Cultivate client relationships and support marketing and production.
• Facilitate design sessions with project teams and site stakeholders.
• Ensure deliverables meet industry and HDR standards across projects.
• Mentor junior engineers and supervise staff development.
• Oversee QA/QC procedures and documentation reviews.
• Support strategic staffing and growth of HDR’s bridge program.
