Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the CB Node team within the Platform organization. This team runs all the blockchain nodes powering Coinbase assets, across 55 protocols, including Ethereum, Bitcoin, and Solana.

You’ll focus on performance optimization and reliability across the blockchain platform stack, building observability and health-check systems that keep nodes reliable at scale.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in software engineering with deep expertise in systems-level performance analysis.
• Experience operating distributed systems at scale, diagnosing resource bottlenecks and tuning performance.
• Proficiency in Go backend development and systems tooling for profiling, tracing, and observability.
• Track record of reducing infrastructure costs through engineering optimization, with measurable outcomes.
• Experience with blockchain nodes, consensus protocols, or crypto infrastructure is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Own deep performance analysis and optimization across the blockchain node stack, diagnosing root causes of resource consumption and implementing system-level fixes that reduce infrastructure spend while maintaining reliability SLOs.
• Build observability, health-check, and automated failover capabilities for blockchain nodes, ensuring the team can detect degradation and respond proactively.
• Lead right-sizing across the node fleet by profiling workloads and establishing capacity models that balance cost with reliability.
• Collaborate with protocol integration engineers, wallet teams, and indexer teams to extend performance improvements across the full blockchain platform stack.
• Define and implement SLOs and SLIs for node services to provide reliability without over-provisioning.
• Support protocol upgrades and node operations with a performance-first lens, validating resource efficiency before production rollout.
