Job summary

Sports Basement in Walnut Creek is seeking an experienced Bike Mechanic to join our busy shop. You will guide customers through bike evaluations, perform repairs, and contribute to daily shop operations under the Lead and Management team.

The role emphasizes problem-solving, bike knowledge, and a WOW service mindset, with opportunities to train staff and help maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace.

Qualifications

• Previous retail or bike industry experience.
• Ability to perform tubular and tubeless tire setups.
• Clear passion for cycling and bikes.
• Knowledge of the gear in the assigned department.
• Ability to create a WOW customer experience.
• Self-starter able to prioritize daily workload.
• Positive, fun vibe that elevates staff and customers.
• Strong verbal and written communication with customers and staff.
• Basic computer skills.
• Flexibility to adapt as duties change.
• Able to lift 40 pounds and stand for long shifts.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area.
• Time management and problem solving.
• Availability for weekends/holidays.
• Familiar with business tools: Google Docs, Shopify, POS, Lightspeed, Fiori.

Responsibilities

• Greet and assist service customers; communicate work orders clearly.
• Deliver WOW customer service using SB tools.
• Communicate about work orders with customers.
• Maintain proficiency in Lightspeed and align with weekly summaries.
• Educate/train floor staff in service writing.
• Keep bench and work area clean and organized.
• Share updates and changes with the team.
• Pursue vendor training to improve skills.
• Assist across zones as needed.
