Job summary

OneEnergy Renewables in the Seattle area seeks a Sr. BESS Manager to lead and stand up our battery energy storage engineering capability.

You will oversee design standards, CAPEX methods, and a cross-functional team across Development, Preconstruction, Finance, and Engineering, directing engineers and coordinating with external partners. The role requires 6+ years in engineering with BESS, NEC/NFPA/UL expertise, RFP leadership, and hands-on design.

Qualifications

• Degree in electrical, mechanical, or related engineering field.
• PE license or clear near-term licensure path.
• 6+ years in professional engineering, construction, or land development with BESS focus.
• Experience delivering multiple DG and/ or utility-scale BESS projects through construction and commissioning.
• Experience selecting, sizing, and procuring BESS equipment across multiple OEMs and integrators.
• Strong familiarity with NEC (including Article 706), NESC, NFPA 855, and UL 9540/ UL 9540A for energy storage.
• Experience leading RFP responses and interconnection and permitting interactions with utilities and AHJs.
• Experience managing internal engineering resources and mentoring direct reports.
• Strong communication and negotiation with off-takers, contractors, stakeholders.
• Detail-oriented with integrity and ability to manage multiple projects.

Responsibilities

• Define and maintain BESS design standards and templates.
• Establish workflow to track BESS status, tiering, and prioritization.
• Lead DG and utility-scale BESS plant design and approve drawings.
• Lead design discussions with engineers and consultants.
• Lead BESS CAPEX sizing, guarantees, warranties, and cost estimates.
• Drive equipment selection with Preconstruction Team.
• Own relationships with BESS integrators and suppliers.
• Maintain safety standards meeting NFPA 855, NEC 706, UL 9540A.
• Lead BESS RFP responses and coordinate vendor details.
• Provide feedback on System Impact and Feasibility Studies.
• Bridge Development, Preconstruction, Finance, and Engineering activities.
• Support community outreach, permitting, and pipeline planning.
