Job summary

HDR is seeking a senior electrical/architectural engineer with a PE license to lead BESS design efforts in the Phoenix area. You will develop and review concepts, one-line diagrams, and detailed designs for grid-scale energy storage projects, coordinating with multiple engineering disciplines and supporting project execution.

The role requires strong communication, the ability to manage complex, time-sensitive projects, and travel up to 10% domestically or internationally.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an Electrical emphasis is required.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
• Strong computer skills with AutoCAD, Revit, SKM, AGI and Easy Power are required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
• Ability to travel up to 10% domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Support grid scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) projects from conceptual layouts to construction package completion.
• Evaluate energy storage technologies and support microgrid and distributed energy resource projects with detailed electrical designs.
• Develop and review design plans, specifications, cost estimates, and construction documents at design milestones for BESS projects.
• Coordinate with civil, structural, fire & life safety, high-voltage electrical, SCADA/telecommunications, water, and geotechnical engineers to develop complete design packages.
• Provide technical reports on BESS concepts, use-cases, and feasibility studies for diverse audiences.
• Assist in meetings with clients, contractors, and vendors to support project execution and business development.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an Electrical emphasis
