Job summary

Ameresco, Inc. is seeking a Senior BESS Project Engineer to lead complex Battery Energy Storage System projects through design, development, and commissioning.

This remote role centers on behind‑the‑meter BESS with home office in the Phoenix, AZ area, while supporting front‑of‑meter needs as needed. You will coordinate with engineering, procurement, construction, and operations teams to ensure safe, scalable systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field required.
• 7+ years in electrical design, controls engineering, or BESS project work.
• Ability to travel up to 50% for site visits and commissioning support.
• Experience independently leading BESS design and cross-project coordination.

Responsibilities

• Review SLDs, control schematics, and BESS designs for accuracy and constructability.
• Direct subcontract engineers to ensure relays, controllers, and monitoring equipment are properly programmed.
• Verify site controllers, data monitoring, and communications reflect final design and are installed per plan.
• Coordinate with internal teams to align equipment selection and system architecture with project requirements.
• Mentor and develop junior BESS engineers and establish standards for design review and commissioning.
