Verkada is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer for the Device Platform in San Mateo, CA. You will help shape the backend between cloud and hardware, including device provisioning, OTA firmware, and licensing.

The role demands working across teams, mentoring teammates, and driving platform features at scale. Ideal candidates have 6+ years in backend services with low latency and high uptime, proficiency in Python or Go, and willingness to be onsite five days a week.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience building backend services with consistency, latency, and uptime guarantees at scale.
• Fluency in at least one server language — Python or Go preferred; adjacent languages like Ruby or JavaScript (NodeJs) welcome.
• This role requires U.S. citizenship or permanent residency for FedRAMP compliance, and onsite presence five days per week.

Responsibilities

• Architect, ship, and bring others along. Learn and teach as we build.
• Design and lead major platform features end-to-end, such as the IoT core, the device-metrics platform, or the licensing ledger.
• Lead operational improvements that increase system robustness, reduce pager noise, and help the team learn from incidents when they occur.
• Teach as you ship — through design reviews, code reviews, crisp written communication, and direct mentorship.
