Job summary

Verkada Inc. is seeking a senior Backend Engineer to build and operate large-scale distributed systems processing hundreds of millions of events weekly. You will drive architectural decisions and own end-to-end development of backend services integrating AI capabilities.

This role requires strong expertise in Go or Python, hands-on experience with cloud platforms and container orchestration, and a willingness to work onsite in San Mateo, CA five days a week.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
• 5+ years of backend engineering experience with large-scale distributed systems.
• Strong knowledge of Go, Python, Java, or C++ and core CS fundamentals.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain scalable backend systems processing hundreds of millions of events weekly.
• Lead technical design discussions and drive architectural decisions for event processing, alert management, and notification services.
• Own end-to-end ownership from design through deployment, monitoring, and optimization.
• Drive backend infrastructure development with AI capabilities integration.
• Mentor junior engineers through code reviews and guidance.
• Contribute to Verkada's public API for integrations with security and operations systems.
• Collaborate with product managers and engineering leaders to deliver high-impact products.
