Job summary

Affirm is seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Trust and Safety) to join a remote-US team. You will shape the technical strategy for Trust and Safety Foundations, drive critical initiatives across systems, and raise the bar for reliability and scalability in a high-impact domain.

You will lead end-to-end execution, collaborate across product, design, and analytics, and mentor engineers while delivering robust backend services using Python or Kotlin in a cloud-first environment.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend design, development and launch at scale.
• Experience with Python or Kotlin.
• Proven track record delivering highly available distributed systems.
• Ability to operate in ambiguity and architect large systems.
• Strong communication with cross-functional partners.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for the team on a yearly horizon.
• Collaborate with product, design, and analytics to ensure sustainability and manage risks.
• Advocate and define technical solutions and operational processes.
• Own team operations and availability with monitoring and on-call readiness.
• Set and promote code review and design standards across teams.
