Job summary

Affim is seeking a seasoned backend leader to guide a Trust and Safety Foundations team within Checkout Engineering. You will shape the technical strategy, drive reliability, and partner with product, design, and analytics to deliver scalable systems.

You will own operations, set design standards, mentor engineers, and help the team grow while maintaining a high bar for code quality and documentation.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin.
• Extensive track record of developing highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes.
• Strong coding standards and ability to communicate technical ideas clearly across teams.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for the team on a year-long horizon.
• Collaborate with product management, design & analytics to ensure sustainability, risks and trade-offs are well understood.
• Drive operational excellence with monitoring, on-call playbooks, and incident response processes.
