Makai is seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer for a fully remote role. You will design and implement backend services in Node.js/TypeScript, collaborating with cross‑functional teams to deliver scalable, secure systems and robust user experiences.

The ideal candidate brings 7+ years of backend experience, hands‑on work with Docker/Kubernetes/Azure, and a track record in regulated environments with strong data handling, audit logging, and access controls.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of backend software engineering experience, building and running production services.
• Experience with Node.js and TypeScript required in production environments.
• Experience in regulated environments with access control, audit logging, and data handling.
• Ability to learn new frameworks quickly and reason about systems broadly.
• Strong relational data modeling and ORM skills; solid schema validation.

Responsibilities

• Develop new features across Node.js/TypeScript backend services.
• Optimize applications for speed, scalability, and reliability.
• Collaborate with frontend developers and product designers to improve usability.
• Write robust, documented code and maintain existing applications.
• Conduct performance tests and ensure cross‑platform stability.
