Job summary

Makai is hiring a Senior Backend Software Engineer for a fully remote role. You will design and implement backend services in Node.js/TypeScript, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and drive scalable, secure solutions that improve user experiences and business outcomes.

The ideal candidate will have 7+ years in backend engineering, hands-on experience with production services, and familiarity with regulated environments, Docker, and microservices.

Qualifications

Experience with Node.js and TypeScript required.
7+ years of professional backend software engineering experience.
Experience in regulated environments with access-control, audit-logging, and data handling discipline.
Ability to learn new frameworks and reason about systems beyond a single stack.
Strong relational data modeling and ORM usage; schema validation as a habit.
Experience using Docker.

Responsibilities

Develop features across Node.js/TypeScript backend services.
Optimize applications for speed and scalability.
Collaborate with frontend and product design to improve usability.
Write robust, maintainable, well-documented code.
Maintain and enhance existing applications; ensure performance and reliability.
