Job summary

Commencis is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design, develop, and maintain scalable backend systems using Java and Spring Framework. You will lead architecture for monoliths and microservices, develop BFF layers, and ensure high-availability RESTful APIs while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of backend Java experience, strong design-pattern knowledge, and familiarity with CI/CD; exposure to AI tools is a plus.

Qualifications

• BSc/MSc/PhD in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
• 5+ years of professional backend Java experience
• Strong Spring Framework experience
• Excellent knowledge of design patterns and scalable system design
• Experience with microservices and distributed systems
• Hands-on with relational and non-relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis)
• Kafka or RabbitMQ experience is a plus
• Frontend basics: JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3
• Strong unit tests and debugging skills; Git proficiency
• CI/CD and DevOps familiarity
• Analytical thinking and problem-solving
• Excellent attention to detail and time management
• Strong English communication
• Interest in AI technologies and AI-assisted development
• Banking/financial services domain knowledge is a plus

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend systems using Java and Spring
• Lead architecture for monoliths and microservices
• Develop Backend-for-Frontend layers and core services
• Apply design patterns and architectural best practices (DDD, TDD)
• Build RESTful APIs with high availability
• Collaborate with product, design, and QA teams
• Ensure code quality through reviews and best practices
• Write unit and integration tests
• Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize systems
• Participate in CI/CD and deployment tasks
• Mentor junior developers and share knowledge
• Stay up to date with emerging technologies
