Job summary

PrizePicks is looking for a senior backend engineer to own and scale our Rails and Go services, driving the migration from a Rails monolith to microservices and powering internal tooling APIs for real-time decisioning and risk management.

You will lead end-to-end feature design, improve system reliability, and mentor engineers while collaborating with product managers and QA teams in a fully remote environment.

Qualifications

• 5–8 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Production experience in Ruby on Rails and Go.
• Experience with monolith-to-microservices migrations.
• Experience designing and operating distributed systems or event-driven architectures.
• Strong proficiency in Ruby on Rails and Go.
• PostgreSQL: schema design and query optimization.
• Understanding of API design (REST and/or gRPC).
• Experience with asynchronous workflows, message queues, or event streaming.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and observability practices.
• Ability to work autonomously in a fully remote environment.

Responsibilities

• Build and own backend services across Rails-based services and Go microservices.
• Support the migration from a Rails monolith to a microservices architecture.
• Power internal tooling APIs for real-time decisioning and risk management.
• Lead the design and implementation of complex features end-to-end.
• Drive system reliability by diagnosing performance bottlenecks and optimizing queries.
• Propose and drive architectural decisions for team services.
• Provide hands-on mentorship to Software Engineers through code reviews and pairing.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Product Managers and QA teams.
• Participate in on-call rotations for production incidents.
