Job summary

Humana Inc. seeks a Senior Software Engineer to architect, develop, and maintain action and policy platforms enabling real-time, personalized decisioning across channels. You will design scalable data models, build high-throughput services, and integrate enterprise rules engines.

Responsibilities include implementing microservices, ensuring low latency, backward compatibility, and robust governance. Remote/hybrid work with travel may be required; focus on reliable, auditable systems.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 years of backend or platform engineering experience.
• Proven ability to build microservices and REST/gRPC APIs.
• Experience with complex, evolving database schemas.
• Deterministic, policy-driven platforms with rule engines.
• Direct experience integrating enterprise rules engines (Drools, ODM, DMN, OPA).
• Strong proficiency in Java and/or Python; aptitude for AI-assisted tooling.

Responsibilities

• Architect, implement, and operate microservices delivering action and variant metadata.
• Support context-aware policy and eligibility evaluation with versioned APIs.
• Ensure highly available, low-latency services with horizontal scalability.
• Apply API design, schema evolution, and secure integration best practices.
• Design resilient data models; manage complex rule bindings and metadata relations.
• Collaborate with platform, data, and ML teams; mentor junior engineers.
