Job summary

Humana, Inc. is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to architect, develop, and maintain action and policy platforms for real-time, personalized decisioning across digital and assisted channels.

You will design robust data models, build high-throughput services, and integrate policy engines, with a focus on AI-assisted, deterministic engineering practices for scalable, compliant systems.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 years of experience in backend or platform engineering.
• Proven ability to build microservices and REST/gRPC APIs.
• Database-backed systems with complex, evolving schemas.
• Deterministic rules or policy-driven platforms.
• Direct experience integrating enterprise rules engines (Drools, ODM, DMN, OPA, or similar).
• Strong proficiency in Java and/or Python.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools for increased productivity and accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Architect, implement, and operate microservices that deliver action and variant metadata.
• Provide context-aware policy and eligibility evaluation.
• Develop versioned, read-optimized APIs for high-performance runtime consumption.
• Ensure services are highly available, low latency, and horizontally scalable.
• Apply API design, schema evolution, and secure integration best practices.
• Design resilient database schemas and support data integrity and auditability.
• Integrate and manage enterprise rules engines for eligibility and policy enforcement.
• Adopt AI-assisted tooling to generate schemas, validate rules, and streamline testing.
• Collaborate with platform, data, and ML teams; mentor engineers and contribute to standards.
