Openly is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to design, build, test, and maintain the services powering our insurance platform. You’ll implement scalable APIs, contribute to architecture, and mentor teammates for robust, modern backend systems.

Qualifications

• At least 4 years of professional backend web-stack experience.
• Proven Go experience; code challenges as part of interview.
• Track record in improving stability, performance and scalability.
• Ability to deliver complete systems with minimal supervision.
• Strong ability to explain complex concepts to non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate to develop core systems and APIs powering user experiences.
• Build internal tooling and APIs to streamline business processes.
• Implement architectural changes aligning with goals.
• Integrate with external services for payments, documents, and claims.
• Work with data providers for real-time risk and property data.
• Provide mentorship and participate in architectural discussions.
• Contribute to decisions on microservices vs monoliths and deployment.
• Participate in daily stand-ups and regular 1:1s and retros.
