Job summary

Openly, a modern insurance platform, is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to join a core team building the backend for its insurance platform. You will design, build, test, and maintain services powering policyholder experiences.

You will collaborate on APIs, internal tooling, integrations with payments and data providers, and help steer architectural decisions from microservices to monoliths, all while mentoring teammates in a remote-first environment.

Qualifications

• At least 4 years of professional backend experience.
• Professional Go experience; interview includes a Go coding challenge.
• Proven track record in scalable, reliable systems.
• Able to deliver complete systems with minimal supervision.
• Strong ability to communicate technical concepts clearly.
• Experience with billing/payments systems preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop core systems and APIs for user experiences.
• Build internal tooling and APIs to streamline processes.
• Make systemic architectural changes.
• Integrate with external services for payments, documents, claims.
• Integrate with data providers for real-time data on property characteristics and risk.
• Provide mentorship and support to teammates.
• Collaborate on architectural discussions.
• Contribute to decisions on microservices vs monoliths, deployment, technologies, policies.
• Participate in stand-ups and 1:1s and retros.
