Pearson is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to own end-to-end backend systems on AWS with a focus on reliability and scalability. You will guide architecture, design, and production readiness, mentor teams across locations, and drive modernization while delivering new capabilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in CS, SE, IT, or related field.
• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with backend systems experience.
• Technical lead or senior engineer for complex, cross‑functional initiatives.
• Deep knowledge of backend concepts: distributed systems, concurrency, scalability, fault tolerance.
• Strong programming in a modern typed language (Java, Kotlin, Scala, C#, Go, Rust, TS).
• Experience designing microservices, RESTful APIs, async workflows, event-driven architectures, streaming systems, integration services.
• AWS and cloud-native engineering experience with multiple AWS services listed in tools above.
• Experience with relational, NoSQL, graph, and streaming data technologies.
• Strong API design, system integration, auth, security, data protection concepts.
• Automated testing, CI/CD, observability, and incident response.
• Documentation, architecture diagrams, runbooks, best-practice guidance.
• Proven ability to turn POCs into production systems.
• Agile development with distributed teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsabilités

• Lead architecture, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and production support of complex software systems.
• Build scalable backend services, distributed systems, event-driven apps, and streaming solutions.
• Own major engineering initiatives from discovery to production rollout.
• Balance new features with modernization, debt reduction, reliability, and maintenance.
• Collaborate with product, architecture, security, and operations to translate requirements.
• Develop and communicate technical proposals with architecture decisions and risks.
• Lead discovery sessions, architecture reviews, and design discussions.
• Design APIs, microservices, asynchronous workflows, and cloud-native services.
• Evaluate existing capabilities before introducing new solutions.
• Create PoCs and evolve them into secure, maintainable capabilities.
• Provide technical leadership across onshore and offshore teams.
• Mentor engineers in design reviews, troubleshooting, and best practices.
• Establish standards for code quality, testing, observability, and operational readiness.
• Produce clear technical docs and runbooks.
• Drive continuous improvement across development and production practices.
• Own production systems, including monitoring, incident response, and RCAs.
• Operate in 24/7 production environments.
• Stay current with cloud, distributed systems, AI, and engineering productivity.
• Adopt AI-assisted engineering where it adds value.
• Contribute to an AI-native engineering culture.
