Job summary

Pearson seeks an experienced Senior Software Engineer to own and evolve scalable backend systems. You will design, build, deploy, and operate complex software spanning distributed services and event-driven architectures on AWS.

You’ll lead major initiatives, modernize platforms, reduce technical debt, and mentor engineers across onshore/offshore teams. The role emphasizes production reliability, observability, and collaboration with product and security teams.

Qualifications

7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
Experience designing, developing, and operating backend systems.
Strong knowledge of distributed systems and scalable architectures.

Responsibilities

Lead architecture, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and production support of complex software systems.
Build backend services, distributed systems, event-driven apps, and streaming solutions on AWS.
Own major engineering initiatives from discovery to production rollout and ongoing support.
Balance new feature delivery with modernization, technical debt reduction, and reliability improvements.
Mentor engineers, lead architecture reviews, and promote engineering best practices.
Produce clear technical documentation and system designs for cross-functional teams.
