Job summary

Industrious seeks a Senior Backend Engineer to own production services powering thousands of members, with a focus on scalable, AI-enabled systems. You’ll work across Node.js/TypeScript, Kafka, and MongoDB, contributing to reservation and credit experiences and shipping across backend, frontend (React/Next.js), and mobile.

Based in our New York/Montreal hub with Wednesday in-office Hub Days, you’ll collaborate closely with Product and Design to iterate features and improve reliability for a

Qualifications

• Proven track record shipping production backend services with Node.js/TypeScript.
• Experience designing AI agentic systems and guardrails.
• Strong NoSQL experience with MongoDB and event-driven architectures (Kafka).

Responsibilities

• Build and operate the backend services powering thousands of members daily.
• Expand the member credit system and redesign the reservation experience.
• Own reservation-based access for on-demand bookings across locations.
• Push site performance and reliability forward as a core discipline.
• Ship across the stack: backend, frontend (React/Next.js), and mobile when needed.
• Design and build AI agentic systems and guardrails within core platforms.
• Advise on AI-assisted engineering practices to grow the team's capability.
