Job summary

Grail is seeking a senior backend engineer to design and lead development of native cloud-based software powering the Galleri Test and related platforms. You will own backend services and distributed systems, driving cross-functional programs and mentoring teammates.

You will shape standards, tooling, and testing practices, collaborating with product, operations, and partnerships to translate business needs into scalable, robust solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in CS, EE, bioinformatics, or equivalent experience.
• 8–12+ years designing, developing, and maintaining full-stack apps and microservices.
• Strong knowledge of backend, frontend, cloud, and data technologies.
• Experience with distributed systems on cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure).
• Excellent written and verbal communication; able to mentor others.
• Familiarity with gRPC, Terraform, and AWS is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop and lead large cross-functional programs with high complexity and risk.
• Build native cloud-based software powering Grail’s key offerings (Galleri Test, my.grail.com).
• Provide technical leadership, establish standards, tools, and knowledge requirements.
• Mentor team members and model innovation and excellence.
• Drive improvements in software engineering practices aligned with business needs.
